This gorgeous Hmong hill tribe indigo hemp fabric length is full of ethnic character, with a thick texture and worn indigo shade, a thick off-white stripe along one edge and some aged wear giving it a rustic feel.

Perfect for crafting projects (we use vintage textiles such as these to create throw cushions and more), or simply for adding to your fabric collection.

The Hmong are one of many hill tribes including the Lisu and Akha, that are found throughout the border regions of SE Asia. Using traditional methods passed down generations they create their bright embroidery, deep indigo dyed clothing and rich textiles that are steeped in meaning and tradition.

The cotton and hemp is organically grown, harvested and dyed, most notably using the leaves of the indigo plant. The intricate batik patterns are created using beeswax and applied using handmade tools and scribes, while the fabric itself is still hand woven on bamboo looms in the villages.

Due to the handmade / hand dyed nature of the textiles and vintage age there may be dye staining or patchiness as seen in the pics.

This fabric length was taken from a vintage Hmong dress – sourced directly from Hmong hill tribe communities in Northern Thailand.

For washing hill tribe textiles we recommend washing separately, by hand, and letting shade dry.
