Artisan-crafted, this pendant light shade is actually a repurposed tea-leaf harvesting basket that we’ve painted in a rustic whitewash style.

These stunning shades, woven from natural bamboo, offer an elegant yet rustic lighting fixture that is rich in history and authentic craftsmanship. Woven by hand, fixed with straps, and then worn on the back by farmers in the mountains of Southeast Asia, they’d typically be filled with picked tea leaves, coffee beans, or cabbages—whatever the harvest of choice. 

We’ve hand-painted the bamboo baskets in a classic weathered white-wash style. Add a light cord set of your choice, and you’ve got a unique pendant light shade that oozes charm and uniqueness.

A HAND-PAINTED WHITE BAMBOO PENDANT LIGHT WITH RICH HISTORY

We’re big fans of this one, not least because of the history behind each pendant shade basket.

Believe it or not, these baskets are crucial in bringing the world some of the best tea and coffee on the planet. Up high in the mountainous regions of northern Thailand, organic tea and coffee farmers use these baskets to pick their plants. Long strips of bamboo would be loosely woven by hand to form the large basket shape. Straps would be affixed to the basket, and it would be slung on the back, usually with a fabric layer inside.

Repurposed into pendant light shades, they’re simply beautiful. The large size draws the eye, yet they don’t overpower a space due to the relaxed and subtle weave.
