A vintage indigo hemp cushion cover made from authentic hill tribe textiles. Part of our popular indigo hemp cushion collection, this beautiful throw cushion is full of ethnic character.

We source rolls of vintage hemp fabric from the hill tribe community in northern Thailand, from which we create these cushion covers. If you’re partial to a bit of sewing yourself, we also stock individual hill tribe hemp fabric rolls that are perfect for crafting and upholstery.

With a worn and faded appearance, this cushion carries rich history in its threads. Two lengths of indigo fabric are joined together, with white stripes down the center of the cushion cover. The reverse is a locally produced bamboo fiber fabric in an ivory beige shade.

Finally, we’ve finished this cushion cover with an invisible zip and offer it either as a cover only or with a kapok-filled insert.

AN ETHNIC HILL TRIBE CUSHION MADE FROM VINTAGE INDIGO HEMP

This vintage hemp cushion features an aged indigo-dyed fabric sourced from the Hmong hill tribe.

Softly faded indigo batik patterns are embedded in the light blue color of the cushion, with white stripes adding contrast. The reverse features a bamboo fiber fabric that is locally woven, with a hidden zipper for a professional and clean finish.

NATURAL KAPOK AS OUR CUSHION STUFFING OF CHOICE

This cushion is available as either an individual cover or complete with an insert we’ve ready-filled with natural, organic kapok from the Ceiba tree.

Kapok is a fantastic choice of pillow fill material. It’s natural, being harvested directly from seed pods of the Ceiba tree. Kapok fiber is also hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, as well as being moisture resistant. Lastly, it’s incredibly comfortable, which is of vital importance when we’re talking about pillows and cushions. There’s no point in having an eco-friendly, organic pillow-filling material if it feels like a bag of rocks to sit on.

INDIGO HEMP CUSHION CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Although this cushion cover is made from vintage textiles, they are generally quite robust. Still, we recommend a hand wash rather than a machine wash, just to be safe.

To clean your cushion cover, remove any insert or fill material, and then use warm water and a bit of elbow grease to remove any stains or bits of dirt. Feel free to use a little washing powder, but avoid any harsh chemicals.

If you’re using a kapok insert, you can plump up the kapok by hand any time you feel it’s getting a little squished. Add or remove kapok as you please to find your perfect level of plumpness.
