PLANT DYED INDIGO FABRIC SHEET DETAILS

Hand woven and indigo plant dyed fabric sheets from the hill tribes of S.E Asia.

Each indigo fabric sheet is approximately 170cm x 85cm.

Indigo shades may differ slightly between sheets as each is individually dyed and woven.

INDIGO FABRIC SHEET CRAFT & CARE

Initially a short soak/hand wash for a minute or so in cold/lukewarm water will release excess dye and when shade dried naturally will produce a beautiful rich indigo color.

A little dye loss is to be expected with future washes – salting the water slightly is said to help keep the dye locked in further.

This textile is not suitable for machine washes, especially with added chemicals and heat – harsh machine washes will result in heavy dye loss and leave you with an off grey shade.

ABOUT HMONG TEXTILES

The Hmong, alongside tribes such as the Lisu and Akha, inhabit the border regions of Southeast Asia. Employing traditional techniques handed down through generations, they craft vibrant embroidery, clothing dyed in deep indigo, and intricate textiles imbued with profound meaning and cultural tradition.

INDIGO PLANT DYE

For millennia, cultures worldwide have utilized indigo dye to color textiles. The production of a mere 2kg of dye can require up to 1 ton of indigo leaves. Additionally, natural indigo proves to be an eco-friendly dye; once the pigment is extracted, the leftover plant residue can be composted for use as fertilizer, and the water can be recycled for crop irrigation.
